Her works are in private collections in Australia, the USA, the UK and South Africa. She is constantly focused on expanding her skills and has been mentored by Jane Guthleben, Juliette Holmes a Court and Kevin McKay.

Jenna Caspary is a Sydney based artist. She takes inspiration from the beauty of the natural environment. Her current focus is on capturing a moment in the short lifespan of flowers, making their beauty immortal. Usually she paints in a larger-than-life scale which has a high impact, encouraging the onlooker to stop and appreciate the nuances of the different stages in the life of the flowers.  Her process involves hand choosing flowers at multiple florists, arranging and capturing them in a photograph and then painting the image over several months to capture their softness, stillness and movement. The background is deliberately kept as raw linen which adds to the natural look, as well as shows off its beauty and prestige. The exposed raw linen elevates the painterly quality of the subject matter and draws attention to the negative spaces.

As Jenna continues to paint florals, she is interested in capturing the flower, as well as pairing it with a wallpaper-like background that complements it. Wallpaper is used to adorn the walls of a home and can add another layer of interest and glamour, which is what she has been experimenting with in her latest paintings.

Blooming, 163 x 244cm, oil on Italian linen, 2023

‘Peonies start as a bud, gently expanding and blossoming as layers and layers of petals unfurl. I have chosen stems from different stages to suggest the evolution of life – from birth to death.   Peonies are only in season for a short period of time each year, about 8 weeks. I wanted to capture the immortalisation of peonies in a state of bloom. Unlike this brief lifecycle of the peony, these paintings will have a greater permanence.’ Jenna Caspary
