Upcoming Duo Exhibition at Art2Muse Gallery 26 August – 8 September 2025
Meet the Artist 1pm – 3pm Saturday 30 August 2025
Guest Artist
Ann Gordon is a contemporary landscape artist who paints directly from the Australian bush, either on canvas or in a journal. Many of her works are created using handmade brushes formed from materials collected from the landscape. With a small palette of paints and charcoal, she creates intuitive, energetic and layered artworks that express the essence of the Australian landscape.
In her studio, she takes these smaller journal paintings and starts to work them into larger paintings. Ann’s work has been selected as a finalist in several art prizes including The Fishers Ghost, Gosford Art Prize and the Waverley Landscape Prize. She holds a Bachelor of Design Hons (Visual Communications), University of Technology.
Artist Statement
“My intention is to capture the unique energy of a place through my work. The feeling of being grounded in the Australian landscape began in childhood with family camping adventures and my dad’s love of bush walking. Although my studio is in Sydney, I regularly escape the city to the North Coast to work on new paintings. When I travel into the bush, I take my plein air kit, journal and a selection of small pieces of canvas. My process starts by using automatic and rhythmic drawing to create a first impression which is at first chaotic and intuitive. Without overthinking, I record the essence of what I’m seeing and feeling. I then begin layering with paint and colour, working with flux, alternating layers of mark making and veiling until I sense I have reached a balance between what I observed and my emotional response to a place.” Ann Gordon
