Guy Trinquet is a Paris-born, Melbourne-based contemporary artist. A self-taught painter, he has been selected as a finalist in multiple art prizes, including the prestigious Glover Prize in 2021 and 2022. A versatile painter with varied styles, he uses oil, acrylic or mixed media depending on the particular vision he has for each painting. His works depict semi-abstract landscapes and abstract paintings inspired by landscapes.
“As a child, I was captivated by stories I read about the early explorers, mesmerised by images of astronauts landing on the moon and fascinated by documentaries of the natural world. My paintings are about this sense of wonder and the adventure of discovering the world around me.”
Guy’s paintings of rugged mountains and his low horizon seascapes and landscapes with vast skies are inspired by his own adventures trekking in the Alps, sailing across the Atlantic and the joie de vivre of his earlier days in France.
His abstract works are inspired by geological features including mountains, canyons and caves and aerial views of the ocean, forests and deserts. Guy mixes his own colours, meticulously applying layer after layer of paint with different types of medium to create unique artworks with a 3D quality. Some of his paintings incorporate 24k gold leaf. His paintings are held in private collections in Australia, the US, the UK, France, Malaysia and Singapore.
