Olivier Le Nan was born in Paris in 1969. Neither impressionist nor surrealist, his style has such great subtlety that it is difficult to compare to any other artist. Le Nan marks the canvas with his strong and original imprint. He paints an airy and timeless world. The viewer must surrender to Olivier's instinct, to the perspicacity of his vision, a perception which leads him to work the oil in successions of delicate and sensual layers.
' As a teenager, I used to draw comic strips but had the greatest difficulty telling a story across several strips. Each came out as a snapshot. When I started to paint, this all naturally became fixed images, canvases. I attended the Bordeaux School of Fine Arts and became a painter. I mainly use oil paint on canvas.'
'My passion is to be able to suggest a space in which my characters come to life. They seem to belong to a parallel world. Sometimes one of them stares at us, demands our attention'
'The body is a place of metamorphosis and of petrifaction, of impulses always renewed - it dances on the tightrope of hope and perdition.'
