Alesandro Ljubicic was born on the 6th of March 1986 in Jajce a town which was first built in the 14th century and served as the capital of the independent Bosnian kingdom during its time. Ironically Ljubicic shares the same birth date as one of our most influential artists of all time, Michelangelo Buonarroti.

When the Croation war of independence was fought in 1991, this is when the Ljubicic family decided to move to Sydney, Australia with their only child, Alesandro and start a new life.

From a very young age, the creative passion and inherent discipline to achieve was always there and throughout his teens Alesandro was constantly given credit for his art efforts, even to the point woman were seen crying at his final year art project Passions of Christ, From this Ljubicic was offered a scholarship and grant.

This was a definitive moment for Alesandro deciding to follow his passion in becoming a practising artist.

Alesandro Ljubicic studied at the National Art School where he was involved in a number of exhibitions and art awards. He completed his degree with a high distinction - winning the William Fletcher Scholarship and a solo show at the Xavier Art Space, which was opened by broadcaster Alan Jones and with proceeds going to the Cancer Foundation.

Today Ljubicic spends his time in his studio creating a large number of commissions, contemplating, sketching, painting and most passionately, working towards his next body of work. Ljubicic is dedicated to using only the finest quality oil paints and Belgium Linen, this derives from the quintessential Ljubicic upbringing.

Agendo Exhibition for Young Emerging Artists - finalist.
Together in Harmony for 50 years-Linking Australian and Korean Arts Exhibition in Seoul

The Korean Women's Art Society in Sydney (KWASS) has invited Australian artists to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the Year of Friendship 2011 between Korea and Australia.

This exhibition features 106 Australian artists from a variety of different backgrounds, and focuses on introducing contemporary Australian arts. Many Archibald winners and finalists are present among the exhibitors, including Ben Quilty, who won in 2011, and Sam Leach, who took the prize in 2010. The Archibald Prize is one of Austrlia's oldest and most prestogious art awards, and was established in 1921.

WINNER THE WILLIAM FLECTHER SCHOLARSHIP

The William Fletcher Trust (now the William Fletcher Foundation) was established in 1985 to celebrate the life and to commemorate the work of William Ernest Maurice Fletcher (1924-1983), painter and printmaker, whose integrity as an artist was not compromised by his material difficulties and lifetime fight with cardiac asthma. The William Fletcher Grants are awarded annually to outstanding young visual arts students who demonstrate excellence in painting, drawing, printmaking or stage design. Conditions and Eligibility for Grant Applications The course should involve a reasonable emphasis on skills in one or more of painting, drawing, print-making and stage design. Evidence of high achievement in the practice of one or more of these disciplines must be supplied. Work that is wholly photographic or computer-generated is not eligible but the submitted examples may incorporate elements of either.
