Lara Scolari
Lara Scolari

Lara Scolari is a contemporary Australian artist who lives and works full time within her vibrant and light filled studio located in the heart of Sydney’s harbourside village of Balmain. She has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions around Australia and her work has been acquired extensively in private collections.

As an action painter, Lara’s work is produced in a signature Abstract Expressionist style that she has developed through experimental techniques and processes. Each canvas is treated with a range of mediums (ink, pastel, acrylic, and oil stick) to create bold compositions with varied opacity and depth. Bold splashes of colour in organic lines, shapes and forms, offer a captivating contrast to their stark white background.

Lara Scolari has applied her brand of cool chic to her latest exhibition… her work is captivating and modern.  It’s an extraordinary statement of sculptural intent and bold hues – a style that never goes out of fashion.” – Gavin Atkins & Warren Sonin – Designer Boys

In Lara Scolari’s paintings, multi-layered circles create an enlivening space for contemplation and a resting place for thoughts.

Scolari is interested in how energy informs the painting and viewing process. When creating works, she finds herself transforming from a state of active energy into one of serene immersion. Her paintings also provide a space for the viewer to engage with this spectrum of energy: from vitality to calmness. The nuances of her thought processes are expressed through her work, and like being immersed in music, they create a place to retreat, muse and meditate to.

In many works from Scolari’s latest series Contemporary Noir, translucent blues and greens meet black, grey and milky white in veiled layers. These resonate with the marine glimmers of the Balmain environment in which she lives and works. Some works focus primarily on layers of the noir of the series title, and in others, speckled black circulates in a nest-like whirl.

When viewing these circles of energy, we are free to be transported to another state of mind.

As if diving beneath the surface and dreaming of what cannot be seen.” – Lara Scolari
