Melbourne based painter and textile designer Katie McKinnon has developed a strong following with collectors throughout Australia, New Zealand, Europe and North America. Katie’s latest series of large scale mixed media works, are flowing, abstract expressions exploring the fierce beauty of Australia’s underwater gardens, marine flora and native fish species, and the infinite energy of underwater currents and circa-tidal rhythms.
Katie works intuitively to merge the ethereal and the everyday. Her paintings seek to inform of the immensity and fragility of the underwater world, with a complex, subtle layered fluidity defined by deliberate mark-making, intensity of colour, and dynamic, graphic forms representing reef and seamount.
McKinnon is a firm believer in the transformative power of meditation and art, and her paintings are designed to evoke feelings of happiness and optimism.
Katie’s paintings are part of private collections in Australia, France, Switzerland, the UK, and North America, and her work has been featured on The Block, Postcards (CH9), RJL The Style School, Interiors Addict, Australian Design Review, Rebecca Judd Loves, The Home Journal, and in the publications Belle, Inside Out, Home Beautiful, Scoop, Artichoke, HOUSES, Herald Sun, Sydney Morning Herald, Adore Home, Jetstar magazine, Virgin Australia magazine, and Modern Home. Katie has also designed a range of large scale floor rugs for The Rug Collection Art Series.
