Abby has been a finalist and winner in numerous Australian art prizes and her work is held in private collections around Australia.

Artist Statement

“I continue to restrict myself to the pure elements of colour, shape and composition. Underneath the surface of my paintings are countless layers of paint, each stroke playing a part towards the finished abstraction. I have a strong drive towards battling out a painting, reworking and reworking, often for months, and often taking them in a completely new direction when works are ‘very close’ to resolved. Taking risks, making bold decisions and trying new methods are all parts of my painting style.

I draw inspiration from current and recent painters who continue to push boundaries in what painting is for them. Graffiti and un-self-conscious marks continue to interest me as a form of beauty, and being able to create marks like these is forever an aspiration. I feel I have a relationship with each painting that I finish, often there is an unexplained quality to them and I almost wonder how I have achieved their resolution. I continue to look and learn from each painting.” – Abby Chambers
