Upcoming Exhibition at Art2Muse Gallery 5 – 18 September 2017

Meet the Artist 2 – 4pm Sunday 10 September

The series of paintings in my exhibition are process driven abstractions, without reference to the landscape, objects or other forms of external stimulus. Restricting myself to the pure elements of the visual arts; colour, shape, line and composition etc, each painting taking its own path to completion.” Abby Chambers

Artist Statement

Working predominantly in acrylics, my work varies from purely abstract to the incorporation of objects within an abstract context. Even my still life and object drawings I approach with a sense of the abstract.

It’s the honesty, balance and excitement of what the mark can do that I am most interested in pursuing. In each painting I am building a visual story that involves tension, depth, drama and tranquillity. For me, a big part of working on a painting is contemplation. The more experience I gain, the more I work in my mind before I paint. My practice is a continual combination of intuition and considered response.

Having had four solo shows and the experience of exhibiting extensively in group shows in the past, my decision to come back to my art feels more important to me than ever, in fact I feel like my experience combined with life changes and my break from making art has made me passionate about my painting in way that I only touched on before.
